“Let’s do it, Romania!”, the national cleaning campaign on the 25th of September, is now over. We now have a different Romania: more than 73,000 people volunteered to clean up the garbage of more than 22,000,000. We have a cleaner country, we have a 1st time for this action and tons of garbage that is now going to be recycled and not on the side of the streets, in the forests, in parks. Thanks to all those who wanted to give something back to their communities!!

The Danube Defile, the road from Drobeta Turnu Severin to Orsova, Romania, European Union. The place where this photos were taken is a land of freedom, of guaranteed rights, of democracy. The other side, separated by the first one by the Danube, is outside this world. There is Serbia, another world. Marked by a communist regime (yet, the brightest of all) and a war in the 90s, Serbia has fallen back on its once known fame as a great Balkan country. This is their pride and this must be the starting point for the policies they need in order to be part of the European family. Until then, these photos show another world, yet so similar to ours.

The communist prison of Ramnicu Sarat, county of Buzau, Romania. The prisoners were important leaders of the opposition (Ion Mihalache, Corneliu Coposu), but also communist leaders that did not suit the power (like Vasile Luca). It seemed that the communist leaders of the 1947-1962 (the period the prison functioned) wanted to institute an isolation regime for the prisoners. In the future, the Institute for the Investigation of the Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile plans to open a museum here in the memory of the victims of the communist regime in Romania.
